SDGs Week Panel Exhibition "Messages from the Sea ~The Future of Sea Turtles~" will be held from August 27th (Thu) to September 30th (Wed).
In conjunction with SDGs Week, we will be holding a special exhibition from August 27th (Thursday) to September 30th (Wednesday), 2026, featuring panels showcasing examples of our sea turtle conservation activities and the environmental challenges surrounding sea turtles, such as marine debris and overfishing.
Since its opening in 2002, our aquarium has been engaged in activities such as stranding surveys, landing and nesting surveys, and protection and release programs to understand the ecology and habitat status of sea turtles and to contribute to their conservation. Green sea turtles and other species of sea turtles inhabit the coast of Ibaraki Prefecture, and a total of 78 cases of sea turtle strandings have been confirmed in the prefecture over the 10-year period from 2016 to 2025.
Held in conjunction with SDG Week, this exhibition will showcase examples of past research and conservation activities, as well as present panels on the environment and challenges surrounding sea turtles, such as marine debris and overfishing. By learning about the current situation of sea turtles living in the waters off Ibaraki and the conservation efforts underway, we aim to create an opportunity for people to pay attention to the marine environment around them.

Mambora Festa Announced ~Throwaway items transformed into unique works of art~
The "Mambora Club," a volunteer group active at Aqua World Oarai, will be holding its annual "Mambora Festa" on September 26th (Sat) and 27th (Sun) during the period. Join the volunteer staff for a craft experience that reuses items that would otherwise be thrown away.

Aqua World Oarai SDGs Activity Tagline
Since its opening in 2002, our aquarium has focused on the themes of "Ibaraki's Sea and Nature, the World's Seas and the Global Environment," working to conserve biodiversity and the natural environment, as well as conducting educational and outreach activities related to these issues. During SDGs Week in September 2024, we reflected on our activities to date and formulated the SDGs tagline, "Mirai Try Ooarai" (Future Try Ooarai). We will continue to consider what we can do and take on challenges for a sustainable future.
