Winter messenger "Sunabikunin" on display
During a collection survey conducted by keepers at the rocky shore near the aquarium, where a wide variety of seasonal migratory fish can be seen, they were able to capture a "sunabikunin" fish, a fish that heralds the arrival of winter, and have now begun exhibiting it.

The "snabikunin" is a fish classified as a member of the Lancefish family, and is about 8 cm long. It is found widely on the Pacific coast from Fukushima Prefecture to Wakayama Prefecture, and can be seen in rocky shores and shallow waters in winter.
The body color of the "Sunabikunin" varies so dramatically that some individuals appear to be different fish. The three individuals on display this time were all collected in the same location, but they have completely different body colors, including stripes, polka dots, and a solid color. We decided to exhibit them in the hope of introducing the differences and wonders of these body colors to as many people as possible.

The sand slug is a relatively common fish that can be commonly seen on rocky shores in winter, but gradually disappears as the weather warms. Detailed research into its ecology has not yet progressed, and there are still many things we do not know, such as where it lives in seasons other than winter and how long its lifespan is.
*Exhibition contents may change depending on the condition of the creatures.
