The club was founded in October 1991 as a spin-off of the Sumitomo Metal Industries Football Club. They strengthened the team by inviting world-renowned Brazilian player Zico, who also wore the number 10 jersey for the national team. They have won Japan's three major titles: the J1 League eight times, the J.League Cup six times, and the Emperor's Cup five times, and in 2018 also won the Asian Champions League. Their 20 titles are the most of any Japanese professional football club. Mercari, Inc. acquired management rights in July 2019. Their current home base is the entire Rokkaku region, including Kashima City, Kamisu City, Itako City, Namegata City, and Hokota City. Their home stadium is Mercari Stadium.

Kashima Antlers Support Tank

In hopes of further success for Kashima Antlers, we will be exhibiting a common octopus in a special support tank.

Madako
Shikatako

The "Shikatako" featured on official Kashima Antlers merchandise is based on the brand octopus "Kashima Tako", a specialty of the Kashima Nada Sea. "Kashima Tako" is a common octopus that grows in the rough waves of the Kashima Nada Sea, and is known for its thick, firm flesh. "Shikatako" will be hidden in the tank, and special Kashima Antlers-themed decorations are also planned for the area around the tank.
