"Blooming Aqua World Oarai" Nemophila aquarium
We will be holding "Blooming Aqua World Oarai," a collaboration project featuring beautiful seasonal flowers, plants, and fish. With the cooperation of Hitachi Seaside Park, we will be exhibiting a "Nemophila Aquarium" from Thursday, April 2025, 4 to Tuesday, May 10, 5.

"Nemophila aquarium"
At this time of year, the nemophila blooms at "Miharashi Hill" in Hitachi Seaside Park, a popular scenic spot visited by many people from within Ibaraki Prefecture, outside the prefecture, and even from around the world. A special aquarium inspired by the nemophila flowers, which are finally in full bloom, will be available for a limited time.

This year, the blue lighting will cause the white star-shaped polyps of the purple ivy to take on a light blue color like the petals of nemophila, and the tentacles extending from the polyps to take on a lush, leafy green color, recreating the "Overlook Hill" with the purple ivy, a type of coral, as if it were a nemophila.
Polyps of Purple Creeper
Purple ivy is a type of soft coral that does not have a hard skeleton, and is made up of individual corals called polyps that connect to form colonies. Purple ivy is also called star polyps because the shape of these polyps looks like a star.

The white part in the center is the polyp, and the extending parts are the tentacles.

In the nemophila tank, in addition to the purple ivy, schools of cardinalfish, with their translucent bodies that stand out in blue, swim about.
Along with Hitachi Seaside Park, which offers a spectacular view that represents Ibaraki Prefecture during this season, be sure to also visit the Sea Nemophila Aquarium.
