Rare deep sea jellyfish "Kotokurage" now on display

Aqua World Ibaraki Oarai Aquarium regularly conducts surveys of the marine life off the coast of Muroto, Kochi Prefecture. The jellyfish collected in the November survey were exhibited on Saturday, December 11, 6.

Coto jellyfish is a type of jellyfish that belongs to the Ctenophore family that inhabits the deep sea. It attaches and preys on plankton.In addition, when adults grow up, they are known to live benthic lives like nudibranchs, instead of floating in the sea, where they live attached to corals and rocks.It is a jellyfish that is rarely collected and rarely displayed in aquariums.

In the Mysterious Sea Zone of our museum, we are also exhibiting the deep-sea jellyfish, a member of the Ctenophora family.
