The California sea lions at our aquarium are skilled at performing a variety of different things, and calligraphy performances are one of their repertoires, making them a seasonal sight during the New Year period at our aquarium. For the first time, we will be holding a "Sea Lion New Year Photo Time," where the sea lions will show off various poses in front of a calligraphy piece that they have completed, which will represent the animal of the Chinese zodiac for next year, the snake.
Be sure to try taking the best shot with your camera. If you use the photos you take to create original New Year's cards or New Year's greetings on social media, the appearance of the sea lions, full of New Year's atmosphere, is sure to add a touch of festive cheer to the start of the New Year. In addition, on Saturdays and Sundays during the period, there will be actual calligraphy performances. Please enjoy the sea lions' graceful brush strokes as well.

A New Year's event will also be held to celebrate the coming of the New Year with the aquarium's creatures.
The annual New Year's Aqua World event, which livens up the year-end and New Year period, will be held again this year. In addition to events unique to the aquarium, such as the New Year's version of the Dolphin & Sea Lion Ocean Live, which will feature a "sea lion calligraphy performance," and an aquarium display based on next year's zodiac sign, the snake, there will also be a flower arrangement exhibition to celebrate the New Year.
The Ibaraki Prefectural Oze High School Contemporary Culture Research Club, which will be helping out with the flower arrangement, is a strong school that won the National High School Flower Arrangement Battle Ibaraki Tournament and has also participated in the national tournament. Why not spend some wonderful time with the animals over the New Year holidays?
